Wasylycia-Leis on Leadership

Saturday, February 25, 2012

Yesterday, Judy Wasylycia-Leis sent an message to New Democrats in Winnipeg explaining why she chose to support Brian. We wanted to share a bit of that message with you:

Our next leader must have that unique capability of both keeping our social democratic foundations strong and going the final distance to become the first national NDP government in the history of this country. In my experience, Brian Topp is uniquely positioned to do just that.

I’ve known Brian for 20 years and witnessed firsthand his commitment to the party and his contribution on many fronts from supporting and strengthening our party as government in the province of Saskatchewan to working in the wilderness in Quebec preparing for the orange wave.

During much of my time as MP in Ottawa, Brian was the go-to guy when the issues were tough and potentially divisive for our Caucus. His analytic abilities, his strategic sense, his communication abilities are unparalleled in our party. He has what it takes to keep our party and our caucus united and focussed on the task at hand. And he is totally at ease in either official language fully able to speak and think in French with a deep understanding of the francophone culture and Quebec’s aspirations.

Judy might be short, but she's respected across Manitoba as a principled fighter who served her constituents well. Judy was elected four times as the Member of Parliament for Winnipeg North.

If you're in Winnipeg tomorrow, check out the meet-n-greet at Judy's place with Brian after the debate.
